Overview
Lak lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Dak Lak province and the second largest in Vietnam after Ba Be lake. Around the lake, there are large mountains covered by primeval forests. Jun village, a famous place of M'Nong people, is located next to this lake. There are also historical structures such as the palace of King Bao Dai, the longhouse of the M'Nong people.
Lak lake is located in Lien Son town (or Lac Thien) in Lak district, next to the road between Buon Ma Thuot and Dalat, about 56 km south of Buon Ma Thuot city along Highway 27. Going through Lac Thien pass about 10 km before entering Lac Thien town, you will see the lake on the right. The space of historical, cultural, and environmental forests in Lak lake also covers Bong Krang, Yang Tao, and Dak Lieng communes.
This is a natural lake with the greatest depth than that of Great lake (Gia Lai province). The lake is over 5 km², and is connected to the Krong Ana river. The lake surface is always green, surrounded by high mountains. Its surface is always calm, reflecting the large primeval forests with rich flora and fauna. According to Lak lake legend, it was created by the hero Lak Lieng of the M'Nong ethnic group.
